Have you experienced abuse? You don't have to let it define who you are. I know, because I've lived it and walked out of it. I wrote this for you. 

Why my dad chose me to pour out his wrath remains a mystery. But I was his target. When he consumed alcohol, it consumed him. And in turn, it almost destroyed me.

As he beat me, it was as if he was trying to beat out the demons that plagued his own heart. I feared he was going to kill me unless I left. But before I could, he decided to get rid of me, and put me in a local mental institution from which I escaped.

It’s a miracle I didn’t die over the next few years. I certainly wanted to. I was so broken and messed up.

The years of anger and pent-up rage that followed are the story of the abused. Many of us often then graduate to become the abuser—just like those we despised who abused us.

That was my story—but no longer. Because I discovered that we can shed the layers of brokenness and be free. This is my story, but it can be yours. You can be free of the many ways you were abused and the garbage that was piled on you to experience life and love like you never dreamed possible.
